Fuel prices in Cyprus have risen steadily since 13 July, with diesel recording the sharpest increase at 31.8 cents per litre. The average price of diesel reached €1.884 per litre on Monday morning.
Further increases expected
Further increases are expected in the coming period, Consumer Protection Service Director Konstantinos Karagiorgis told CNA.
He said the outlook for fuel prices was not favourable for consumers, as refinery prices were continuing to rise.
“If nothing changes, the next fuel stocks received may come with additional increases. The trends are not positive,” he said.
Current fuel prices
According to the Fuel Price Observatory, the average nationwide price of 95-octane unleaded petrol stood at €1.625 per litre on Monday morning.
The cheapest price was €1.545 per litre, while the highest reached €1.718.
The average diesel price was €1.884 per litre, ranging from €1.795 to €1.989.
Heating oil averaged €1.50 per litre, with prices ranging from €1.389 to €1.655.
Prices rising since July
Consumer Protection Service figures show that fuel prices have been increasing since 13 July.
The price of unleaded petrol has risen by 16 cents per litre, while diesel has increased by 31.8 cents per litre over the same period.
Heating oil has also risen by 13.7 cents per litre during the past month and a half.
Cyprus prices compared with the EU
Based on data from 31 August, Cyprus had the third-lowest price for 95-octane petrol in the EU, behind Malta and Bulgaria.
For diesel, Cyprus ranked as the eighth-cheapest EU member state.
