The Electricity Market Association (EMA) has called for stronger competition in Cyprus’ electricity market, with the aim of gradually reducing energy costs for households and businesses.
The issue was raised during a meeting on Monday with the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) as part of the association’s discussions with relevant bodies on improving the operation of the Competitive Electricity Market.
Focus on lower energy costs
The EMA delegation was led by its president, Giorgos Chrysochos, while CERA was represented by its president, Polyvios Lemonaris.
According to the association, it presented its main positions and proposals, with an emphasis on improving the operation of the electricity market and gradually reducing energy costs for consumers and businesses.
Technical dialogue to continue
The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing constructive technical dialogue between the relevant bodies to ensure problems are addressed promptly.
The aim is to implement realistic and practical solutions that safeguard both the electricity market and Cyprus’ power grid.
The EMA said its priorities remain greater competition, transparency and the development of a sustainable energy model capable of meeting the needs of Cyprus’ society and economy.
