Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has threatened attacks on energy infrastructure if Iranian oil sales remain blocked, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA.
The statement came in response to recent threats by US President Donald Trump, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guards separately accused the American president of lying about Iran.
Ghalibaf warns over oil sales
“The United States and other countries must know that [...] in a region where we cannot sell oil, no one will sell oil. If there is no guarantee for our security, no infrastructure will be safe,” Ghalibaf said in a video.
His remarks followed a speech by Trump at the UN General Assembly last week, during which the US president again threatened severe strikes against Iran.
Revolutionary Guards target Trump
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Iran’s Revolutionary Guards described Trump as a “big liar”, citing statements by the US president concerning nuclear weapons and other issues.
“The American people need to know the truth,” Hossein Mohebbi said.
He also claimed that the United States had failed in its military campaign against Iran and said US forces should leave the region.
