The event will seek to create the world’s longest line of AA batteries, with all batteries to be sent for recycling.

A major environmental and community initiative will take place in Larnaca next month, as local schools and volunteers attempt to break a Guinness World Record linked to battery recycling.

The Federation of Parents’ Associations of Larnaca Primary Schools said the event will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Zouhouri Square in Larnaca, starting at 5pm.

The aim is to collect and place more than 33,000 AA batteries in a continuous line, surpassing the current world record of 31,204 batteries, set in 2023 by Recycle My Battery in the United States.

According to the federation, pupils, parents, teachers, schools, organised groups and volunteers from across the Larnaca district are taking part in the initiative, sending a message of cooperation, environmental awareness and social contribution.

All batteries collected during the campaign will be handed over to AFIS Cyprus for recycling, underlining the importance of proper waste management and environmental protection.
