The party described the agreement as a significant step for Cyprus’ security partnerships and its position in the Eastern Mediterranean.

DISY has welcomed the signing of the Status of Forces Agreement between Cyprus and France, describing it as a “very positive step” that strengthens bilateral strategic cooperation and upgrades Cyprus’ geopolitical position.

In a statement, DISY MP and former Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides said the agreement carries particular importance at a time of heightened geopolitical challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean.

He said the deal reinforces the Republic of Cyprus’ international partnerships and consolidates its role as a reliable partner within the European Union and the wider region.

DISY said the development confirms the importance of Cyprus’ long-term investment in its relationship with France and forms part of the country’s steady western orientation.

The party added that, in recent years, Cyprus has built strategic partnerships with France, Greece, the United States and Israel, strengthening its security and international presence.

Petrides said DISY would continue to support initiatives that bolster the security of the Republic of Cyprus, enhance its geopolitical role and promote the country’s national interests through strong strategic partnerships.
