Cyprus is set for a gradual deterioration in weather conditions over the coming days, with temperatures falling slightly and local rain and isolated thunderstorms expected from late Sunday night.
On Saturday, temperatures will reach around 30°C inland and on the southern and eastern coasts, before falling to around 18°C inland overnight.
Isolated rain is expected mainly over the mountains on Sunday, with conditions worsening late at night. Rain and thunderstorms will initially affect western and northern areas before spreading elsewhere.
Saturday starts mostly clear
Weak low pressure is affecting the region, while a disturbance approaching from the west is expected to begin influencing Cyprus on Sunday night.
Saturday will initially be mostly clear with temporarily increased cloud, becoming partly cloudy and locally mostly cloudy as the day progresses.
Isolated light rain cannot be ruled out over the mountains.
Winds will initially be variable and light at 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort.
They could temporarily strengthen to 4 to 5 Beaufort along the southwestern coast during the afternoon.
The sea will generally be calm to slight, becoming temporarily slight in the southwest.
Temperatures will reach around 30°C inland and along the southern and eastern coasts, 28°C on the western and northern coasts and 23°C in the higher mountains.
Temperatures drop to 11°C in higher mountains
On Saturday night, locally increased cloud will develop at intervals.
Winds will gradually become downslope and light at 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slight.
Temperatures will fall to around 18°C inland, 20°C along the coast and 11°C in the higher mountains.
Weather worsens on Sunday night
Sunday will be partly cloudy and cloudy at intervals, with isolated rain expected mainly over the mountains after midday.
A more significant deterioration is forecast from late Sunday night into Monday.
Local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected initially in western and northern areas, spreading progressively to the rest of the island.
Hail cannot be ruled out during thunderstorms, while winds are expected to become variable and strengthen.
Stronger winds on Monday
Monday will be mainly cloudy, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms expected at intervals.
After midday, the showers and storms will be concentrated mainly over the mountains and eastern half of Cyprus.
Hail will again be possible during thunderstorms.
Winds are expected to strengthen significantly, particularly in exposed coastal areas.
Rain continues into Tuesday
Conditions will remain mainly cloudy on Tuesday, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms continuing at intervals.
Temperatures will fall slightly through Monday and remain broadly unchanged on Tuesday, leaving them slightly below the seasonal average.
