The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for isolated strong thunderstorms that are expected to affect various parts of Cyprus throughout the day.
The warning will be in force from 10am until 5pm.
Which areas will be affected?
Weather conditions are expected to develop initially across the western half of the island before potentially spreading to other regions later in the day.
The department said thunderstorms may be accompanied by hail, while winds are expected to become locally strong and variable.
Rainfall intensity could locally exceed 35 millimetres per hour.
Forecast for Friday
An unstable air mass will continue to affect the region until Monday.
Friday will begin with partly cloudy conditions and isolated showers, mainly in western and northern areas. Cloud cover is expected to increase throughout the day, bringing local showers and isolated thunderstorms.
In areas affected by thunderstorms, hail is possible.
Temperatures are expected to reach around:
- 28C inland and along the south and east coasts
- 26C in the remaining coastal areas
- 17C in the higher mountains
Weekend outlook
The weather is expected to remain unsettled over the weekend and into Monday, with periods of increased cloud, local showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Temperatures are forecast to remain slightly below seasonal averages during the three-day period.
Motorists and the public are advised to remain cautious in areas affected by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
