Bad weather could last until Friday, with a clearer picture of the system's path expected on Monday.

A weather system expected to bring significant rainfall and thunderstorms is forecast to reach Cyprus from the west on Wednesday afternoon, an official from the Department of Meteorology told CNA, adding that the conditions may continue until Friday. A clearer picture of the system's path is expected on Monday. The system appears to be forming in the early hours of Wednesday and will move from the Ionian Sea towards mainland Greece, before heading towards the southern Aegean and then approaching Cyprus. Asked whether heavy rain and flooding were possible, the official said the thunderstorms could cause such conditions.

Scattered showers until midweek

Until Wednesday, only scattered showers are expected, mainly in the mountains and possibly inland and in the north. On Wednesday afternoon, the system is expected to affect the west of the island first before spreading to the rest of Cyprus.
