DISY has renewed its call for the international arrest warrants issued over the murders of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomou to be enforced, insisting that those responsible must be brought to justice.
In a statement marking the anniversary of their deaths, the party paid tribute to the two young men, who were killed during separate incidents in the UN buffer zone in August 1996.
DISY described Isaac and Solomou as symbols of sacrifice, resistance and the struggle for freedom, saying their murders remain more than a tragic chapter in Cyprus’ past.
They are also, the party said, a continuing reminder of the country’s duty towards those who sacrificed their lives and towards their families, who are still waiting for justice three decades later.
DISY pledged to continue pressing for the international arrest warrants to be activated and for those responsible for the killings to face justice.
“No court ruling can reverse the loss,” the party said, adding that justice could nevertheless help address part of the wrong suffered by the victims’ families and offer a measure of vindication to both their relatives and Cypriot society.
The party concluded by saying it would keep the memory of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomou alive while continuing the struggle for justice and freedom in Cyprus.
