President Nikos Christodoulides and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi discussed energy, defence, regional developments and European Union-Egypt relations during a meeting in El Alamein ahead of a trilateral summit involving Cyprus, Greece and Egypt.
The meeting formed part of a series of high-level engagements taking place in Egypt, where the leaders are reviewing regional issues and areas of strategic cooperation. The two presidents also examined the role of the Republic of Cyprus in strengthening relations between the European Union and Egypt.
Bilateral discussions in El Alamein
According to information released following the meeting, Christodoulides and El-Sisi exchanged views on developments in the region, as well as cooperation in the fields of energy and defence.
The leaders also discussed efforts to further enhance ties between the European Union and Egypt, with Cyprus highlighted as a contributor to that process.
Visit to international air show
Following the bilateral talks, the two presidents visited the venue of Egypt's international air show.
They toured exhibition stands from participating countries and attended an aerial demonstration as part of the event's programme.
Trilateral summit to follow
A trilateral summit between Cyprus, Greece and Egypt is scheduled to take place at 13:00 at the Presidential Palace in El Alamein.
The meeting will bring together President Nikos Christodoulides, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Leaders to address media
After the conclusion of the summit, the three leaders are expected to make statements to the media outlining the outcomes of their discussions.
An official luncheon hosted by the Egyptian president will follow the meeting.
