Hapoel Jerusalem is in discussions with the Cypriot government over the possibility of staging its EuroCup home games in Cyprus, according to Gipedo.
The Israeli club, which will face Aris in the EuroCup group stage, has played its European home fixtures at Mega’s arena in Belgrade for the past two seasons but is now seeking a move to Cyprus.
Two Cyprus venues under consideration
The Spyros Kyprianou Sports Centre in Limassol and Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria in Nicosia are being considered as possible venues for Hapoel Jerusalem’s games.
Cyprus offers a location closer to Israel than Serbia, while its Israeli community could also provide a potential audience for the fixtures.
Maccabi Tel Aviv also considering Cyprus
Hapoel Jerusalem is not the only Israeli basketball club exploring the option.
Maccabi Tel Aviv is also reportedly holding similar contacts regarding the possibility of playing its EuroLeague home fixtures in Cyprus.
