A drone exploded overnight near the village of Lopatna in Moldova’s Orhei district, prompting an emergency response and a security investigation, authorities said on Monday.
No injuries or casualties were reported following the blast, which occurred during the night of June 7 to 8 on the outskirts of the village.
Police in Orhei were alerted around midnight by a local resident who reported seeing an unidentified aircraft outside Lopatna before it exploded.
Emergency teams, specialised units and intervention services were immediately deployed to the scene. Authorities said the area was isolated, secured and monitored in line with established procedures.
Explosives specialists and representatives of the Orhei Emergency Situations Directorate also attended the site to assess the risks and carry out the necessary checks.
Following initial inspections, Moldovan authorities confirmed that no one had been injured. Specialist teams resumed their examination of the scene on Monday morning.
Police said the case remains under review and that authorities are working with national agencies to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The incident comes against the backdrop of repeated Moldovan reports of unauthorised airspace violations by Russian drones since the start of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
