Germany’s National Security Council met by video conference on Friday to discuss a drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport, a major air cargo hub. The meeting was chaired by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to a government spokesperson.
Federal prosecutors take over investigation
Merz remains in constant contact with Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and other members of the German Government over the incident, the spokesperson said.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation a day earlier after evidence indicated a suspected drone attack targeting the airport, which serves the cities of Leipzig and Halle.
Federal prosecutors warned that the incident may constitute an attempt to undermine Germany’s national security.
