Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey have signed a defence cooperation agreement in Mecca, according to Saudi television network Al Arabiya.
The agreement comes amid heightened instability in the Middle East and renewed conflict in Yemen, with the three countries seeking to strengthen collective deterrence against potential military aggression.
Collective defence commitment
Al Arabiya described the pact as the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement.
Pakistan also confirmed the signing, stating that an attack against any one of the parties would be regarded as an attack against all three.
“The agreement aims to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression and stipulates that any military attack against one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all,” Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
