The mother of Giorgos Mazonakis, Kleio Mazonaki, has spoken publicly for the first time following her son’s death, calling for justice in his memory.
Speaking to Alpha Greece, she expressed her grief over the loss of her son.
“I ask for justice in memory of my child, my beloved Giorgos,” she said.
Sister alleges Mazonakis was ‘murdered’
A day earlier, the singer’s sister, Maria Mazonaki, had spoken about the circumstances surrounding his death, alleging that her brother had been “murdered” and directing her anger towards the doctors accused in the case.
Speaking during a telephone conversation with a journalist broadcast on Proino on Monday, 21 September, she described the family’s anger and pain over Mazonakis’ death.
She also addressed the circumstances that, in her view, led to his death, while acknowledging that she did not know how her brother came into contact with the doctor concerned or the details of the treatments he underwent.
“How are we supposed to feel? Everyone is furious. We are furious. His unjust death hurts us,” she said.
“I am very angry. Giorgos was murdered. He was being destroyed over time. These people took advantage of his need.”
Maria Mazonaki added that she did not know how her brother had met the doctor or have detailed knowledge of the treatments involved.
The family’s statements come as the authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death and the alleged role of the doctors charged in connection with the case.
