US President Donald Trump described Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States as “very positive for both countries”.
Trump said that the United States and China had made tremendous progress in their relations and would continue their contacts.
For his part, Xi Jinping said that US-China relations would be a relationship of strategic stability based on respect, justice and reciprocity. He also said that he had agreed with Mr Trump to give new content to Sino-American relations.
The Chinese President also referred to two “opportunities” to meet his US counterpart in the near future. The first will be at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China in November, and the second at the G20 summit in Florida in December.
Xi Jinping’s visit to the US concluded with a tea meeting at the White House, followed by a visit by the two leaders to the National Archives.
