Senior US national security officials held a secret meeting at Camp David to discuss next steps in the conflict with Iran and the threat posed by Yemen's Houthi movement, Axios reported, citing three US officials.
According to the report, the meeting was chaired by US Vice President JD Vance and was not publicly announced by President Donald Trump's administration.
Axios noted that the last comparable gathering took place in June 2025, days before the outbreak of the Israel-Iran war.
Participants reportedly included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, White House envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.
The White House declined to comment on the report.
The meeting comes as negotiations with Tehran aimed at ending the conflict have reached an impasse. According to Axios, Trump is considering the possibility of a new large-scale military operation against Iran.
"Now I have to make a decision: either Iran signs the agreement or it won't exist anymore," the US president said on Thursday.
At the same time, Saudi Arabia is urging Washington to participate in a planned operation against the Houthis in Yemen.
According to Axios, Riyadh is pressing for US air strikes, although there is no indication so far that Trump has decided to proceed with such action.
Asked on Friday about his administration's next move in the conflict with Iran, Trump replied: "If I told you, you would have a big story. But you'll see. It's going very well. Iran is not doing well."
