The Israeli military has been placed on heightened alert in the Gaza Strip ahead of the anniversary of the 7 October attacks.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has instructed the armed forces to be prepared for “all possible scenarios”, according to a statement issued by the Israeli Ministry of Defence.
The military's heightened readiness comes on the eve of the anniversary of the attacks of 7 October 2023.
According to the ministry, the orders were issued “in light of intelligence regarding plans by Hamas to attempt attacks against our forces”.
The statement added that military units operating in and around Gaza have been instructed to maintain a high level of preparedness in response to potential threats.
“If our forces suffer casualties, those who will pay a heavy price will be Hamas and the population of Gaza,” the statement said.
The announcement comes amid continuing tensions in the Gaza Strip and as Israeli security services assess the possibility of attacks linked to the anniversary date.
