Ana Brnabić has called the inaugural session for 10:00, when the parliament is expected to elect the president and vice-presidents of the National Assembly.

The inaugural session of Serbia’s new parliament will take place on Tuesday, November 17, at 10:00 a.m., following a call by former National Assembly President Ana Brnabić.

At a press conference, Brnabić recalled that the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) certified the final election results and approved the allocation of seats on November 5.

“In this way, all the conditions for convening the first session of the new composition have been fulfilled,” she said.

The agenda includes six items. They include the confirmation of MPs’ mandates, the election of the president and vice-presidents, the appointment of the secretary-general, and the election of members of parliamentary committees and permanent international delegations.

Seat allocation

The session will be chaired by the eldest MP, Professor Stojan Radenović, until a new president of the National Assembly is elected.

Once the process is complete, the statutory 90-day period for consultations on forming a new government will officially begin.

The parliament’s 250 seats are allocated according to the results of the early parliamentary elections held on October 25. The “Student List - Students Win” alliance will have an absolute majority with 140 seats, while the “Aleksandar Vučić - United Serbia” coalition has 103.

Seven MPs from national minority parties will also enter the new parliament. The “Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians - Balint Pastor” and the “Albanian Alliance” have secured two seats each. One seat each has been won by the Muslim lists, “Rasim Ljajić - For the People (SDP - CDP),” “SDA Sandžak - Guardians of Sandžak” and “Usame Zukorlić (SPP) - Movement for Unification.”
