A total of 561,252 voters are currently registered for May's parliamentary elections, according to the data of January 2nd, Permanent Secretary of Interior Ministry Elikkos Elia told the Cyprus News Agency.

Turkish Cypriots eligible to vote with Cyprus Republic ID and address are 837.

Elia said that the following days the Ministry will be sending out letters to 18 year olds who have the right to vote, with an aim of encouraging registration on the electoral roll.

At the same time two campaigns will be running the following days, in collaboration with the Press and Information Office.

Elia said that applications for new registrations on the electoral roll in the last quarter, from October 3, 2025 to January 2, 2026, reached 603, while during the current quarter, from January 3 until today, 775 applications were submitted.

26 parties

The Ministry's Permanent Secretary also told the Cyprus News Agency that currently 26 parties are registered in the Register, while 3 applications were submitted recently and are being examined.

Elia explained that there are less than two months left for someone to register on the electoral roll and have the right to vote in the upcoming elections set for May 24th.

He stated that the last day to submit an application for registration on the electoral roll, for those who are not already registered, is April 2nd and called on youngsters to do so.

He noted that the right to register on the permanent electoral roll is available to all Cypriot citizens who have reached the age of 18 by election day and have been permanent residents of  the Republic for the last six months prior to submitting the application.

In relation to the ages up to 25 years, Elia said that applications can also be submitted online, through the elections website, at elections.gov.cy.

Elia reminded the citizens that paper applications are submitted to the local District Administration Offices, Citizen Service Centers and Citizen Centers of the Cyprus Post Offices.

Polling stations abroad

Regarding the operation of polling stations abroad, Elia told the Cyprus News Agency that an expression of interest is required up to April 2nd, by at least 30 voters from each electoral district, who will be abroad on election day.

He explained that in order to enable the operation of polling stations abroad, a special electoral roll is being drawn up, to which the data of registered voters are transferred from the permanent electoral roll of the Republic, following a declaration submitted by the interested parties.

Based on past experience, he said, in order to gather the above number for small regions, the total number of voters in a center must reach approximately 600.

Elia added that the only cities abroad that can gather a sufficient number of voters are Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, London and Manchester.

Brussels

He noted that in the 2021 parliamentary elections, 10 polling centers operated, 4 in Athens, 2 in Thessaloniki and 4 in London, and it was not possible to operate a polling center in Patra and Manchester.

For the May elections, according to Elia, following consultation with the political parties and taking into account the fact that, due to the Cyprus EU Presidency, a large number of Cypriots work in Brussels, this specific city has also been added as an option.

Permanent Secretary also said that declaration for someone to vote at a polling station abroad can be submitted online, on the elections website at elections.gov.cy, or in paper form, by appropriately completing the relevant form and submitting it to the Embassies/Consulates of the Republic in Greece and the UK, the local District Administration Offices and Citizen Service Centers and to the Ministry of Interior.

Applications are also available on the website and at the above points.
