Sirens Blare at Akrotiri RAF Bases

Government assures no threat has been detected

Sirens sounded shortly before 11pm on Wednesday night at the Akrotiri RAF Bases in Limassol. Residents received the message below:

For Akrotiri Residents only 

There is an ongoing security threat. Please remain indoors and stay in place until further official notice. Move away from windows and take cover behind or beneath substantial, solid furniture. Please await further instructions.

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis posted on X that no threat was identified. 

"The activation of security protocols and the sounding of sirens were carried out as a precautionary measure. No incidents have emerged from the checks. Therefore, the activation of the measures has now expired, while the competent authorities continue to closely monitor the situation within the framework of established proceduress."
