The possibility of extending the work of the House of Representatives remains open, as the plenary session currently under way may not be the final one before the body’s dissolution ahead of the May 24, parliamentary elections.

According to information available, there is a proposal to hold an additional plenary session on Thursday, April 16, 2026, followed by a further sitting on April 23, when the formal dissolution of parliament is set to take place.

However, any additional plenary sessions will depend on whether the proposal receives the approval of the majority of MPs during today's session.

Issues expected on the agenda

If the proposal is approved, the additional sessions are expected to address the employment status and number of parliamentary assistants, as well as the issue of property transactions in Cyprus involving third-country nationals.

If the proposal is not accepted, all legislative work will need to be completed during today’s session.

Final step before the election period

In any case, the official dissolution of the House of Representatives is set for April 23, marking the entry into the final phase of the pre-election period.
