The Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta imposed a ten year prison sentence on Thursday on a 24 year old male, who was found guilty after admitting, among other offences, intentionally causing serious bodily harm, as well as related charges involving the carrying of an offensive weapon and breach of the peace. The offences were committed in Paralimni on August 16, 2025.

The case concerned a violent incident in which the accused attacked an 18 year old man with a knife, causing him serious injuries.

According to the facts presented, the incident occurred at a restaurant in the Kappari area of Paralimni, where the accused repeatedly and violently attacked the victim, inflicting multiple serious wounds to different parts of his body.

In its ruling, the court said it took into account the seriousness of the acts, the circumstances in which they were committed and the accused’s criminal record, noting that he had previous convictions for similar offences and had been released from prison just two days before the incident.

The Criminal Court underlined the need to deter violent behaviour and protect society, stressing that such offences violate fundamental rights and create a sense of insecurity among citizens.
