Police arrest 54-year-old driver after alcohol test exceeds legal limit following fatal crash in Strovolos.

A 17-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Sunday evening in a road collision in Nicosia. The driver of the car involved in the crash was arrested after a breathalyser test indicated a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.

Collision in Strovolos

According to police, the incident occurred at around 19:20 on Stavraetou Street in Strovolos. A vehicle driven by a 54-year-old man collided, under circumstances still under investigation, with a motorcycle ridden by Ioannis Nicolaou, 17, from Nicosia.

The motorcyclist was transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where the doctor on duty certified his death at approximately 20:00.

Arrest following alcohol test

The driver of the car underwent a breathalyser test, which showed a final reading of 63 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 22 micrograms.

He was arrested and taken into custody. The Nicosia Traffic Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
