Dam Inflows Rise Over Four Days as Overall Capacity Nears 20% |VIDEOS|

Reservoir levels increase to 19.8% following recent inflows, but water reserves remain under pressure ahead of summer.

Cyprus’ dams recorded a significant rise in inflows over the past four days, pushing overall capacity close to 20%. Despite the improvement, the broader water situation remains fragile as the country approaches the summer period.

According to updated data, total dam capacity reached 19.8% on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, up from 18.7% on Friday morning, 20 February. On the corresponding day last year, capacity stood at 25.8%.

Inflows recorded over the past four days

Water inflow into the dams over the last four days amounted to 3.329 million cubic metres. As reported by KitasWeather, total inflows since 1 October have reached 36.687 million cubic metres.

Although daily inflows during the recent four-day period were lower than those recorded the previous week, steady inflows are expected to continue in the coming days. The projected average stands at approximately 0.5 million cubic metres per day until the end of the week.

Gap with last year’s levels

According to the analysis, an additional 17.3 million cubic metres would be required to reach last year’s levels. Even if this volume is accumulated by the end of spring, the overall water challenge is not expected to be resolved. Reservoirs could return to conditions similar to last year by the end of summer, with potential implications primarily for the agricultural sector.

It is noted that this year’s inflows have already exceeded the total recorded during the hydrological years 2023–2024 and 2024–2025. If March records rainfall at normal levels, total stored water is projected to surpass last year’s level of 75 million cubic metres.

Supply outlook and desalination dependency

The outlook for domestic water supply is described as more positive. Approximately 10 million cubic metres are required for the southern conveyor system, a quantity expected to be secured in the near term.

Over the past 12 days, 8.8 million cubic metres have been collected, leaving a remaining 1.2 million cubic metres to avoid water cuts. However, this assessment is subject to the uninterrupted operation of desalination units, as the overall water balance remains at marginal levels.
