Weather Swings Across Cyprus: Showers Possible Wednesday, Clearer Days Ahead

A weak high pressure system is influencing weather conditions across Cyprus, bringing generally fair skies today with the possibility of isolated showers later in the day.

Wednesday’s Weather

Today the weather will be mostly clear at first, gradually becoming partly cloudy. Isolated showers may occur in the afternoon, mainly over mountainous areas and in southern parts of the island.

Winds will initially blow mainly from the west to northwest, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually strengthening to moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. Later in the day, winds in inland and eastern areas will shift to northerly directions at 4 to 5 Beaufort.

The sea will be slightly rough.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 19°C inland, about 20°C along the coast, and near 10°C in the higher mountain areas.

Tonight

Tonight the weather will become mostly clear.

Winds will blow mainly from the northwest to northeast, initially weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually easing to weak at around 3 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will drop to around 5°C inland, about 8°C along the coast and close to 0°C in the higher mountains, where local frost is expected to form.

Outlook for the coming days

On Thursday the weather will remain mostly clear, although locally increased cloud cover may develop in the afternoon.

On Friday conditions will initially remain mostly clear, but locally increased clouds developing in the afternoon may bring isolated showers, mainly over mountainous and inland areas.

On Saturday the weather is expected to become mostly cloudy with local showers or even thunderstorms possible.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly on Thursday and Friday, while a slight drop is forecast for Saturday, bringing values close to seasonal averages.

Snow depth at Chionistra stood at 1 centimetre this morning.
