The traditional ceremony placing the "vrakas" figure took place on the morning of Monday, 14 September, at the municipal garden in Limassol, marking the start of preparations for the 65th Wine Festival, accompanied by wine-themed songs performed by the "Ariones" choir.
The seven-metre figure of the traditional vrakofóros (breeches-wearing) winegrower was installed in the presence of Limassol Mayor Yiannos Armeftis and members of the municipal council, who invited the public to visit the garden and enjoy this year's Wine Festival, taking place between 26 September and 4 October.
Mayor's comments
Armeftis said the city was "in the final stages of completing preparations" and called on everyone to attend the Wine Festival, adding that he expects this year's edition to be "better than last year's."
Programme details to follow
Details of the festival programme, already published on the Limassol Municipality website, will be presented at a press conference on Tuesday, 22 September, at 7pm, at the municipal garden, beneath the vrakas statue.
