Couriers working for Wolt have been on strike since 20 March, with the epicentre of their mobilisation in Limassol.

On Sunday, demonstrations were held outside company locations in Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca, with the strikers disrupting a significant part of the platform’s operations in all three cities for several hours.

Allegations of assault

According to the striking couriers, on 21 March several individuals appeared at the protest site in Limassol and attacked the couriers, beating them in what they claim was an attempt to intimidate them.

Their demands

The workers’ central demand concerns what they describe as extremely low pay. They argue that “under current conditions, earnings do not cover even fuel or vehicle maintenance,” and are calling for an increase in the per‑delivery rate, which they say has been steadily declining in recent years.

At the same time, they stress that the issue is not only financial. They highlight safety concerns, particularly during night shifts. They cite repeated incidents of racist violence, assaults, theft and vandalism of their vehicles, which they say have created a pervasive sense of insecurity.

Mobilisations to continue

The strikers are calling for strong public turnout and visible support for the couriers participating in the protest actions.

Sunday’s demonstrations in all three cities were attended not only by Wolt couriers but also by workers from other sectors, who expressed solidarity and strengthened the momentum of the mobilisations.

According to the strikers, the protests will continue in the coming days unless there is a meaningful response to their demands.
