Heat Warning Issued as Temperatures Climb to 41C

A yellow warning is in effect Friday, with temperatures expected to reach 41C inland.

The warning will be in force from 1pm until 4pm.

Weather conditions today

A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting the region, while a relatively warm air mass continues to influence the island.

Friday will be mostly clear, although increased cloud cover is expected to develop over mountainous areas after midday.

Winds will initially be light and variable at around 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Along the south and southwest coasts, winds may strengthen to 4 to 5 Beaufort during the afternoon.

The sea will be calm to slightly rough, becoming slightly rough in windward coastal areas later in the day.

Temperatures are expected to reach:

  • 41C inland
  • 33C on the west coast
  • 36C on other coastal areas
  • 32C in the higher mountains

Tonight

Conditions will remain mostly clear, although low cloud is expected to develop locally along coastal areas later in the evening.

Winds will weaken and gradually become downslope, remaining light at 3 Beaufort.

The sea will be generally calm to slightly rough, although windward coastal areas may remain slightly rough.

Minimum temperatures are forecast to fall to:

  • 25C inland
  • 25C along the coast
  • 19C in the higher mountains

Weekend outlook

Saturday and Sunday will remain mostly clear, with periods of increased local cloud cover.

Monday forecast

Periods of increased cloud are expected on Monday, with a slight chance of isolated showers over mountainous areas during the afternoon.

Temperatures will ease slightly on Saturday and remain at similar levels through Monday, continuing to stay above the seasonal average.
