An extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the 27 European Union member states will take place on Thursday, 5 March, via videoconference, with developments in the Middle East on the agenda. The information was confirmed by diplomatic sources to the Cyprus News Agency.

The scheduling of the Council has not been officially announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and no further details have been made public.

Format and agenda

According to diplomatic sources, the meeting will focus on the latest developments in the Middle East. The videoconference format reflects the urgency of the situation.

At this stage, the European External Action Service has not issued an official communication outlining the structure or expected outcomes of the discussion.

Other Council meetings

A previously scheduled in-person meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council will take place on Thursday and Friday in Brussels, as planned, independently of the extraordinary foreign ministers’ session.
