US Vice President JD Vance will lead an American delegation to Pakistan for talks with Iran tomorrow, a White House official told Agence France-Presse.
According to the US administration, Vance will be accompanied by two envoys of President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Vance had also led the American delegation during discussions held last weekend.
The confirmation came shortly after conflicting remarks from President Trump, who told ABC that his vice president would not travel to Islamabad, citing security concerns.
The planned meeting in Pakistan comes amid heightened tensions following the escalation of conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran and the ongoing naval blockade affecting the region.
However, Iran has not yet decided whether it will send a negotiating team to Pakistan. According to the Tasnim news agency, citing a journalist, Tehran is unlikely to participate in talks “as long as there is a naval blockade.”
The uncertainty surrounding Iran’s participation raises questions about whether the planned negotiations in Pakistan will proceed as expected.
Washington has indicated that the meeting is intended to explore possible diplomatic steps to address the current crisis, while the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the broader regional conflict continue to influence the negotiations.
