Temperatures Set to Rise Until Tuesday: Showers and Hail Expected in Some Areas

Temperatures are set to rise from Sunday and remain above seasonal averages until Tuesday, with isolated showers and possible hail expected mainly in inland and mountainous areas.

A weak low-pressure system and a relatively unstable air mass are temporarily affecting the region.

Today will start mostly clear, although low cloud may form locally along the coast. From midday onwards, increasing cloud is expected to bring isolated showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly in mountainous and inland areas. Hail may occur during storms.

Winds will initially blow south-westerly to north-westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually strengthening to moderate and locally strong at the coast, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort by the afternoon. The sea will be generally slight to a little rough.

Temperatures will reach around 33°C inland, about 26°C on the western and south-western coasts, near 29°C along the rest of the coast and around 24°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight and outlook

Conditions will remain mostly clear overnight, although low cloud is expected in some areas, particularly in the west. Winds will weaken and become light, around 3 Beaufort, while the sea will be calm to slight. Temperatures will fall to around 16°C inland, 18°C on the coast and 12°C in the higher mountains.

On Sunday and Monday, the weather will be mainly fine across most of the island, with periods of increased cloud. However, developing cloud later in the day may again bring isolated showers and a possible thunderstorm, mainly in mountainous areas.

On Tuesday, intervals of increased cloud are expected, with a chance of isolated showers in the mountains during the afternoon.

Temperatures will rise on Sunday and remain at similar levels through Tuesday, staying above the average for this time of year.
