President Nikos Christodoulides is travelling to Israel today to take part in the 10th Cyprus Greece Israel Trilateral Summit, which will be held in Jerusalem.
Before the summit begins, President Christodoulides will meet with Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, followed by a separate meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Parallel bilateral meetings will also take place between the Foreign and Energy Ministers of Cyprus and Israel.
The President will then participate in the Trilateral Summit itself. After the conclusion of the meeting, the three leaders are expected to make statements to the media.
Speaking in Lefkara on Sunday, during the presentation of the priorities of Cyprus’ upcoming EU Council Presidency, President Christodoulides described the visit as highly important. He said the summit aims to build conditions of security and cooperation in the wider Middle East region. He added that the bilateral meetings with Israeli leadership will focus on energy, defence, innovation and tourism.
The agenda will also include discussions on strengthening the 3+1 format with the United States. According to Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the aim is to deepen regional integration and reinforce the role of the Eastern Mediterranean as a strategic, energy and economic hub.
Energy is expected to feature prominently, particularly the development of interconnected infrastructure and the political momentum generated by the recent Cyprus Lebanon EEZ delimitation agreement.
The summit takes place two years after the 9th Trilateral Meeting, which was held in Nicosia on 4 September 2023 shortly before the events of 7 October 2023.
