Larnaca is reshaping its tourism strategy around changing global travel trends, with a focus on authentic experiences, sustainable development and year-round tourism, the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) said.
The organisation said its 2026 Action Plan forms part of a broader strategic framework aimed at aligning the district's tourism product with evolving international demand.
According to ETAP, global tourism is undergoing significant change as travellers increasingly seek authentic experiences, alternative forms of tourism, sustainable destinations, strong local identity and modern digital communication.
Accessibility and the ability of all visitors to participate in tourism activities have also become key pillars of contemporary tourism development.
Positive results already visible
ETAP said its 2026 Action Plan is being implemented at an intensive pace and is designed to connect individual initiatives with the international trends shaping the tourism industry of today and tomorrow.
The organisation said the results of this effort, carried out in cooperation with local stakeholders, are already becoming visible.
Major international hotel chains have chosen Larnaca for investment in recent years, while two of the United Kingdom's largest tour operators have included the district in their programmes for 2027.
Larnaca has also increased its share of total tourist arrivals to Cyprus, according to the organisation.
Five pillars of growth
The strategy is built around five main pillars:
• Experiential activities and special-interest tourism
• Sustainable and year-round tourism
• Strong local identity and promotion of individual communities and areas
• Digital promotion and modern tourism marketing
• Tourism without barriers
ETAP said modern travellers are increasingly looking for experiences linked to a destination's history, culture, nature and way of life.
"The modern visitor increasingly seeks experiences connected with the place, its history, culture, nature and the way of life of its people, sustainability and the extension of the tourist season are two of the most important challenges for modern destinations and in Larnaca actions are adapted to this objective, while modern tourism development requires each area to have its own recognisable identity, so that visitors do not simply get to know a single destination but experience the distinctive characteristics of each city and community," the organisation said.
ETAP added that it is continuously investing in digital communication and international promotion to strengthen the visibility of Larnaca's tourism offering in global markets.
