As artificial intelligence (AI) transforms jobs globally, expectations for those entering the labour market are changing at an unprecedented pace.
According to new research conducted ahead of this year’s summer World Economic Forum (WEF), held from June 23 to 25 in the Chinese city of Dalian, AI is not only reshaping the skills employers value, but also the career paths of workers at every stage of their professional development.
The same research finds that AI has a more visible impact on younger workers, as well as those entering the workforce.
Globally, more than one in three young workers are employed in roles with moderate to high exposure to tasks that are being transformed by AI. The highest levels of exposure are recorded in sectors such as financial services, information management and communications.
These findings were echoed in discussions during the three-day forum in Dalian, where participants examined the ways in which AI is redefining the future of work.
