The party asks whether studies were submitted, impacts assessed and approvals secured for the Pegeia event.

The Thematic Committee on the Environment of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation has expressed its support for a request by environmental organisations for immediate clarifications regarding the organisation of the Beerateia Beer Festival, from 17 to 19 July in Pegeia. In an announcement, it notes that the event will take place close to the Special Area of Conservation and the Special Protection Area "Akamas Peninsula" of the Natura 2000 Network.

The clarifications sought

The Ecologists ask for clarification on whether the required studies were submitted, whether the potential environmental impacts were assessed and whether the necessary approvals were secured. They note that they are not opposed to cultural or social events, but demand full application of environmental legislation, particularly in areas of high ecological value, where lighting, noise pollution and increased human presence may affect protected species and sensitive habitats.

"Non-negotiable preconditions"

The Committee's Coordinator, Stavroula Demetriou, stated that "the protection of the Akamas cannot be applied selectively, nor can it retreat before any event or other interest", adding that transparency, timely environmental assessment and respect for the Natura 2000 areas constitute "non-negotiable preconditions" for any activity in such sensitive areas.
