Fire Breaks Out Near Polis Chrysochous, Aircraft Deployed

Firefighting crews are battling flames in harvested fields near the Turkish Cypriot village of Chrysochou, with no homes currently at risk.

 

A fire broke out on Thursday near the entrance to the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, prompting the immediate mobilisation of the emergency services.

The blaze is currently burning stubble in harvested fields and dry vegetation close to the Turkish Cypriot village of Chrysochou.

Firefighting operation under way

Strong ground forces were deployed shortly after the fire was reported, while firefighting aircraft have also joined the operation.

Crews are working to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading across a wider area.

No threat to residential areas

Firefighting efforts remain under way. There have so far been no reports of residential areas being threatened.
