Teenager Critical After Aglantzia Crash, 27-Year-Old Arrested

Police say the car struck the 16-year-old’s mobility device before being found at a different location.

 

A 16-year-old is in critical condition following a serious road collision in Aglantzia early on Friday. A 27-year-old man, believed by police to have been driving the vehicle involved, was arrested after an alcohol test recorded more than three times the legal limit.

The collision occurred at around 2am as the vehicle travelled from Georgiou Griva Digeni Avenue towards Larnacos Avenue.

Under circumstances being investigated, the car struck a personal mobility device travelling ahead of it, which was being ridden by the teenager.

The 16-year-old was seriously injured and taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where he underwent surgery. His condition is described as critical.

The vehicle involved was located shortly afterwards at a different location from the scene of the collision.

According to police, the 27-year-old believed to have been driving the vehicle underwent a final breathalyser test, which recorded 73μg%, compared with the legal limit of 22μg%.

He was arrested for an offence committed in the presence of police, while Nicosia Traffic Police are continuing investigations to establish the exact circumstances of the collision.
