A total of 60 products posing risks to consumer health and safety have been registered in the Safety Gate rapid alert system.
The Consumer Protection Service, which serves as Cyprus' national contact point for the operation of the Safety Gate system, said the products were detected in the markets of various EU member states and subsequently notified through the system to alert consumers.
For the purpose of checks on the Cypriot market, the 60 products were assigned to the following competent authorities:
- Consumer Protection Service: 16 products
- Department of Electromechanical Services: 17 products
- Department of Labour Inspection: 13 products
- Department of Road Transport: 8 products
- Health Services: 2 products
- Department of Environment: 2 products
- Mines Service: 1 product
- Ministry of Interior (Construction Products Sector): 1 product
According to the announcement, consumers can consult the Safety Gate website directly to search for products that have been notified through the system and obtain information that may help them avoid using unsafe products.
The Consumer Protection Service is calling on economic operators who currently market, or have previously marketed, any of the products concerned to immediately notify the relevant competent authority.
Consumers who possess any of the identified products are urged, where appropriate, to:
- Stop using them.
- Return them to the retailer from which they were purchased.
- Inform the relevant competent authority.
