The State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) says a police investigation into the treatment of a four-year-old child with viral meningitis remains ongoing, following Monday's protest at Limassol General Hospital.
In a statement issued after the demonstration, OKYPY said both a police investigation and an internal inquiry are currently under way.
The organisation said it understands the pain of the child's family and relatives, as well as their desire to receive answers, noting that the police investigation is aimed at establishing the facts of the case.
According to OKYPY, statements have already been taken from members of the staff involved.
Internal investigation continues
At the same time, the organisation said its own internal investigation is continuing in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
OKYPY stressed that fundamental principles of the rule of law, including the presumption of innocence, must be safeguarded while the investigations are in progress.
It said this requires avoiding characterisations or conclusions before the relevant procedures have been completed.
‘Full cooperation’ with authorities
OKYPY said it is fully cooperating with the competent authorities and providing all necessary assistance for the conduct of any independent investigation.
The organisation added that, as a public-law body operating accredited services and strict quality-assurance procedures, it applies mechanisms designed to ensure the prompt, impartial and objective examination of every allegation or complaint.
In conclusion, OKYPY said it remains committed to the principles of:
