The Cyprus Handicraft Service of the Deputy Ministry of Culture will participate with a national pavilion in the eighth International Biennial of Contemporary Craft and Creation, Révélations 2027, at the Grand Palais in Paris from 19 to 23 May 2027.
As part of the preparations, the service has issued an open call for expressions of interest from artists working in contemporary craft, including glass, wood, textiles and fibres, ceramics, metalwork, stone, leather and paper.
Applications will be accepted from August 12 to September 10, 2026. A shortlist of artists will be submitted to the Révélations Artistic Coordination Committee at the end of September, with the committee expected to make the final decision in the following weeks.
According to the Deputy Ministry of Culture, Révélations has been organised since 2013 by Ateliers d’Art de Franceand is an international trade fair dedicated to contemporary craft.
The event has a strong commercial focus, with works presented required to be available for sale with the creators’ consent. The works are expected to cover a broad price range of between €300 and €20,000.
“Applicants are invited to submit original works characterised by uniqueness and innovation,” the ministry said.
While all forms of craft are initially eligible, artists are encouraged to avoid proposals involving clothing and accessories, as these are considered less relevant to the interests of the exhibition’s collectors and wider audience.
Works of applied and fine art, including stone and wood creations, ceramics, textiles and jewellery, are preferred, provided they align with the exhibition’s curatorial vision, the announcement said.
Selection process
Artists will initially be shortlisted by a three-member committee appointed by the Deputy Minister of Culture.
The shortlist will then be submitted to the Révélations Artistic Coordination Committee, which will make the final selection of participating artists.
Selected artists are expected to work with the Cyprus Handicraft Service and the exhibition’s curator.
The Cyprus Handicraft Service will cover the cost of transporting selected works to and from Paris, as well as expenses related to the exhibition design and promotional material.
However, it clarified that it will not cover any costs associated with the creation of new works.
Participating artists will receive a €700 fee for their participation.
Artists will also be required to submit relevant promotional material by early November 2026.
How to apply
Applicants must submit the application form electronically, accompanied by a portfolio containing at least six representative works, as well as a brief description of their proposal and how it meets the objectives of the Cyprus Handicraft Service.
They must also provide a brief description of the techniques and materials they use, together with a CV.
