Five Cypriot marathon runners and mountaineers will carry a message of hope for children with cancer and leukaemia by undertaking a demanding climb to Mytikas, the highest peak of Mount Olympus, from 2 to 6 September.
The initiative follows the Hope and Love Marathon held two years ago, when around 500 runners from Cyprus took part in the Athens Marathon wearing the jersey of the ELPIDA Foundation, sending a message of support to children battling cancer and leukaemia.
According to a statement issued by the ELPIDA Foundation for Children with Cancer and Leukaemia, participants in the climb will be:
- Professor Loizos G. Loizou, President of the ELPIDA Foundation
- Elena Lena
- Elina Ioannou
- Andreas Antoniou
- Savvas Adamou
"With every step towards the summit, we carry a message of courage, love and solidarity to children and adolescents facing cancer and to their families," the statement said.
"By climbing Olympus, we raise even higher the message of ELPIDA: Every child, wherever they may be, deserves the opportunity for treatment and life."
