The husband of a Greek television presenter has been released pending trial after appearing before an Athens summary court on a charge of domestic simple bodily harm committed in the presence of a minor.
According to protothema.gr, prosecutors filed a misdemeanour charge against the accused, an offence that is prosecuted ex officio under Greek law and does not require the victim to file a formal complaint.
Trial postponed
The case was brought before the court on 25 August, which decided to postpone proceedings until 27 August.
The court also ordered the lifting of the defendant's detention but imposed a measure requiring him to remain away from the family residence in Agia Paraskevi until the case is heard.
Defence disputes assault allegation
During the hearing, the defence argued that no physical injury had been inflicted on the presenter and that the incident was limited to a verbal altercation.
According to submissions made in court by the presenter's lawyer, who was not present at the hearing, the presenter has already filed a statement withdrawing her complaint.
The court was also told that the presenter and the accused remain in contact.
Awaiting new hearing
The case is scheduled to return before the summary court on 27 August.
Until then, the defendant will remain free but must stay away from the family home in accordance with the court's order.
