Two men aged 20 and 19 were arrested following a dramatic police chase in Limassol that began after officers attempted to stop a vehicle travelling without registration plates.
According to police, officers spotted the vehicle on Ellados Street and signalled for the driver to pull over for inspection. The driver allegedly ignored the instructions, accelerated and fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.
Collisions and objects thrown at police
During the chase, additional police units were called in as the driver allegedly continued at speed and drove dangerously, colliding with other vehicles along the route.
Police said occupants of the vehicle also threw objects at pursuing patrol cars in an apparent attempt to obstruct the chase.
Warning shots fired
At one stage, officers fired warning shots into the air. Shots were also fired at the vehicle's tyres in an effort to bring it to a stop.
The pursuit ended at traffic lights in the Ypsonas area, where the vehicle was immobilised and both occupants were taken into custody.
Driver known to authorities
The two suspects are Turkish Cypriots aged 20 and 19, who are reportedly related.
According to the report, the 20-year-old, believed to have been driving the vehicle, is known to police and had allegedly been involved in a similar incident about a month ago.
Both men were taken in for questioning.
Police are investigating a number of offences, including traffic-related violations, while inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
