The curtain falls tonight on the 20th Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026, with Cyprus celebrating the most successful performance in its history at the event after winning a record 18 medals.
The Cypriot delegation finished the Games with:
- 7 gold medals
- 6 silver medals
- 5 bronze medals
Georgiou makes history
Marios Georgiou was among the standout performers of the Games, winning three medals and increasing his overall Mediterranean Games tally to nine, the highest ever by a Cypriot athlete.
His medals in Taranto were:
- Gold – Artistic Gymnastics, Individual All-Around
- Gold – Artistic Gymnastics, Horizontal Bar
- Silver – Artistic Gymnastics, Parallel Bars
Antoniou strikes gold twice
Swimmer Kalia Antoniou secured two gold medals:
- Gold – 50m Freestyle
- Gold – 100m Freestyle
Athletics delivers four medals
Cyprus collected four athletics medals:
- Gold – Iosif Kesidis, Hammer Throw
- Gold – Olivia Photopoulou, Long Jump
- Silver – Milan Trajkovic, 110m Hurdles
