The three-judge Criminal Court has postponed its verdict in the trial over the murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, saying it has not yet completed its written decision due to the scale of the case and the volume of evidence presented.
The court had been expected to deliver its ruling on Wednesday regarding the guilt or innocence of the defendants. However, judges announced that additional time is required to finalise the judgment.
Decision moved to October
Following the court's announcement, the verdict is now scheduled to be delivered on October 23.
The court said the delay was necessary because of the extensive testimony and evidence that must be evaluated before the final ruling is issued.
Four defendants remain in custody
The case concerns the murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, who was shot dead on October 30, 2023, in a parking area in Agios Tychonas, Limassol.
Four individuals are facing charges in connection with the killing and remain in custody as remand prisoners at the Central Prisons.
Heavy security at court
Security was significantly increased for Wednesday's court appearance.
Dozens of police officers from various units of the Limassol CID, the MMAD riot unit, and the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad were deployed at the courthouse.
Despite the extensive security measures, the proceedings lasted only a few minutes before the postponement was announced.
