A post-mortem examination has found that the three-year-old boy who died on Saturday suffered severe head trauma, multiple bodily injuries and damage to vital organs as a result of a fall.
The examination was carried out on Monday by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.
Police said samples were also collected during the examination and will be sent for scientific testing.
The child, aged three years and nine months, was found injured on the ground floor of an apartment building in Nicosia at around 6.15pm on Saturday.
Police officers and an ambulance crew attended the scene, and the boy was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 6.50pm.
According to the evidence under investigation, the child had been inside the sixth-floor apartment where he lived with his parents when, under circumstances that remain unclear, he reportedly fell to the ground floor of the building.
The boy’s parents, a 32-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were arrested under court warrants as part of the investigation. They were remanded in custody for five days on Sunday.
