Spotted a Drone Overhead? The EAC Is Inspecting the Electricity Network

Flights begin in Omonia and Chalkoutsa on 8 October and will cover 12 more areas until 21 October.

Residents in a number of communities may notice unmanned aircraft flying overhead in the coming days. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has scheduled drone flights from 8 to 21 October 2026 to inspect the electricity distribution network.

Flights on 8 October

According to the EAC's announcement, flights will take place in Omonia and Chalkoutsa on 8 October 2026, between 09:00 and 11:00.

Areas covered from 8 to 21 October

From 8 to 21 October 2026, the flights will cover the Ypsonas Industrial Area, Alassa, Monagri, Doros, Trimiklini, Saittas, Kato Amiantos, Platres, Kakopetria, Galata, Sina Oros and Tembria.

Duration and purpose of the flights

The EAC says the flights will be brief and limited to areas where inspection of the electricity network and related equipment is required.

Regulatory framework

The EAC adds that the flights will be carried out in accordance with the current regulatory and legislative framework governing the operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). It says they will be used exclusively for the official purposes stated in the announcement.
