Unsettled conditions will be more pronounced today, with fewer weather events expected from tomorrow. Temperatures will remain around 26°C through Monday.

The weather is expected to improve significantly from tomorrow, with rain and thunderstorms easing, according to Michalis Mouskos, Senior Meteorological Officer at the Department of Meteorology, who spoke to CNA.

He said low pressure and unsettled conditions would affect the area through Saturday, and would be more pronounced today than on Friday and Saturday. Showers have already occurred in the western half of the island.

Intermittent rain and brief, non-intense or prolonged thunderstorms are expected until 18:00 today in the interior, the western half of the island and the northern coastal areas.

The weather will improve considerably tonight in the interior and mountainous areas, where no weather events are expected. There remains a possibility of isolated showers along the coast, which, Mr Mouskos said, would be “nothing particularly unusual or significant”. There may also be patches of light fog in parts of the interior late tonight and into tomorrow morning.

Isolated showers may occur along the coast tomorrow morning. In the afternoon, rain or brief thunderstorms are expected in the interior, the mountains and the northern coastal areas, with fewer events than today.

Temperatures will be around 26°C today and tomorrow. In the interior, this is 3°C below the average, while along the coast, particularly in the west and north, it is close to the average of 27°C. Mr Mouskos said temperatures would remain around 26°C through Monday.

Isolated showers are expected during the day on Saturday, with more localised rain overnight, mainly in the western half of the island.

No weather events are expected on Sunday or Monday. The weather will be mainly clear, with periods of increased cloud. At present, nothing significant is forecast for next week, at least until Wednesday, unless there is a major change.

“Essentially, the weather will improve significantly from tomorrow,” Mr Mouskos said, adding that “we do not have any particularly significant weather events today”.
