A forest fire near Stavrovouni was brought under full control on Tuesday afternoon after prompting a large response involving ground crews and five aircraft.
The fire broke out at 16:50 on the edge of Stavrovouni State Forest, within the administrative boundaries of Anglisides, and posed an immediate threat to the forest, according to the Forestry Department.
Four decares burned
The blaze was brought under full control at 17:30, after burning four decares of agricultural land and low wild vegetation.
Thirty Forestry Department personnel responded with nine fire engines and a bulldozer. They were joined by 10 Fire Service members with three fire engines, as well as a private excavator, an agricultural tractor and volunteers.
Five aircraft operated in support of the ground crews.
Cause of the fire
The Forestry Department said the fire was caused during beekeeping work.
